How to cancel SiriusXM— and check you're not still being charged

SiriusXM is notorious for auto-renewing at full price after a cheap car trial and for being hard to cancel.

Steps to cancel SiriusXM

  1. 1Check your bank or card statement to confirm SiriusXM bills you directly rather than Apple, Google Play, Roku, or T-Mobile — SiriusXM says the cancel path differs by billing provider and only direct-billed accounts can use the steps below.
  2. 2Sign in to the Online Account Center and open the Subscriptions tab.
  3. 3For a plan tied to a vehicle or satellite radio, use chat or phone instead — the Customer Agreement states all subscriptions may be cancelled by phone or online chat, and reserves full online self-cancellation for streaming app-only plans bought on siriusxm.com.
  4. 4Open Online Chat via the Contact Us page at siriusxm.com/contactus (listed as 24 hours / 7 days a week).
  5. 5Or call 866-635-8641, the number printed under 'To cancel your subscription' on SiriusXM's Manage or Cancel Service help page.
  6. 6Do this more than 24 hours before your renewal date, or SiriusXM warns the subscription might renew anyway.

The SiriusXM catch

The subscription is attached to the radio, not to you. SiriusXM's Customer Agreement states plainly that selling, trading in, or losing your vehicle — or simply never listening — does not cancel it, so billing continues after the car is gone. Worse for tracking a mystery charge: if SiriusXM receives records that the vehicle was sold or traded, it may automatically transfer the subscription to your new vehicle and just send written notice. Also note two different cancellation numbers appear on SiriusXM's own site — 866-635-8641 on the Manage or Cancel Service help page, and 1-866-635-2349 for Audio/Infotainment in Section 4 of the Customer Agreement — so use whichever matches the page you are following. Finally, the plan rate you remember is not the charge you'll see: plans with music channels can carry a separate U.S. Music Royalty Fee on top.

Will SiriusXM still charge you after you cancel?

Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current Subscription Period, not right away — you keep listening until the billing cycle ends and get no credit for the partial period. Cancelling during a free trial may take effect immediately. Cancelling one subscription does not cancel any others on the account; SiriusXM states you must act on each one separately, so check for a second radio still active.

Refunds: Audio subscriptions are non-refundable by default, with two documented exceptions. Cancel a monthly billed plan within 7 days of the subscription start date and it terminates immediately with a pro-rata refund of fees paid, if you request it — this does not apply to later monthly renewals. Cancel a quarterly or annual plan within 30 days of the start or of each subsequent renewal charge for the same pro-rata refund on request. Outside those windows, cancellation is effective at period end and fees paid are non-refundable. Trials and extended service subscriptions included with a vehicle purchase are explicitly not eligible for any refund.
