How to cancel Spotify— and check you're not still being charged
Spotify Premium and its family plans creep up in price, and duplicate music subscriptions are common.
Steps to cancel Spotify
- 1Log in at spotify.com/account
- 2Open Manage your plan (spotify.com/account/subscription/manage)
- 3Select Cancel subscription
- 4Continue until you reach the confirmation message
- 5Check the account page now shows a date when your plan switches to Spotify Free
- 6If there is no option to change or cancel the plan, open Payment on the account page — a partner company bills you and only they can cancel

If you are a member of someone else's Family or Duo plan rather than the plan manager, these steps only remove your account from the plan — they do not cancel it, and the manager keeps getting billed. If charges continue after a successful cancel, Spotify's own guidance is that you almost certainly have Premium on a second Spotify account, so log out and back in with different details.
Will Spotify still charge you after you cancel?
Premium runs until your next billing date, then the account switches to Spotify Free; you keep your playlists and saved music and can still log in and play with ads. If you cancel during a zero-priced free trial, you drop to free immediately and that trial can never be reactivated.
Refunds: No prorated refund — Spotify's refund policy is that you cancel and keep what you paid for, with Premium running to the end of the billing period; payments made through a partner company have to be refunded by that partner, and store-bought gift cards are not refundable.
Spotify runs $11.99–$19.99/mo — about in line with the average music subscription we track (~$16/mo across the music services we track). Before you cancel, check whether you're also still paying for Apple Music, YouTube Premium, SiriusXM — a common overlap in the same category.
