How to cancel Amazon Prime— and check you're not still being charged
Prime bundles shipping and video, so people rarely question whether they still use it enough to justify the annual cost.
Steps to cancel Amazon Prime
- 1Sign in at amazon.com and open Account & Lists > Prime Membership (Prime Central), or go directly to amazon.com/mm/pipeline/cancellation.
- 2Select End Membership.
- 3Click past the retention screens offering a pause, a discount, or a rundown of benefits you would lose — none of those screens cancel anything.
- 4Select End My Benefits.
- 5Select End Membership again on the final screen to actually finish the cancellation.
- 6If you joined Prime through Google Play on Android, or through another company's service, Amazon cannot cancel it — cancel with Google Play or that provider instead.

Prime Video channel add-ons such as Paramount+ do not stop when Prime does; Amazon keeps billing them separately, so check Memberships & Subscriptions after you cancel. And a single Prime-shipped order or Prime Video stream since your last charge forfeits any refund for that period.
Will Amazon Prime still charge you after you cancel?
Benefits run to the end of the billing period you already paid for unless you choose to end them immediately, and the membership then stops renewing. Pausing instead of cancelling only defers billing — a pause left running past 365 consecutive days is converted into a full cancellation.
Refunds: Full refund of the membership fee if you cancel within 3 business days of signing up or converting from a free trial (Amazon may deduct the value of benefits used in that window); at any other time, a full refund only if neither you nor your account made eligible purchases or used Prime benefits since the last charge, processed in three to five business days.
Amazon Prime usually posts as AMAZON PRIME*[order id] amzn.com/bill (shipping-only plans appear as AMZ*Prime Shipping Club amzn.com/bill) — which is why it can be hard to recognise when you're scanning a statement for things to cut.
