How to cancel Ring Protect— and check you're not still being charged
Ring Protect plans are small and sticky, quietly renewing for cameras people may no longer use.
Steps to cancel Ring Protect
- 1Open Ring's Canceling your Ring plan article and follow its Learn how to download your Ring videos link to save any footage first.
- 2Sign in to your account on ring.com — Ring routes plan cancellation to the website.
- 3Select Plan on the top menu.
- 4Select the plan you want to cancel.
- 5Confirm the cancellation.
- 6For anything bought inside the Ring Appstore, use the separate Manage and cancel subscriptions from the Ring Appstore link — those are billed on their own and are not covered by cancelling your plan.

Cancelling destroys your saved footage. Ring deletes the cloud recordings and states that past video recordings cannot be restored on resubscribing, so download anything you might need for an insurance claim or police report before you confirm. The trap is that Ring also makes you cancel and resubscribe just to switch the same plan tier between monthly and yearly billing — so a cancel you do purely for billing reasons wipes the video too.
Will Ring Protect still charge you after you cancel?
Your subscription and its add-ons keep working until the end of the current billing period, then stop and do not renew. You keep the plan's benefits until then. All cloud recordings tied to that plan are lost, and Ring says past video recordings cannot be restored if you resubscribe later.
Refunds: None. Ring's cancellation article states that refunds are not available for Ring subscription cancellations unless required by applicable law. Upgrading is treated differently: Ring auto-cancels the old subscription and applies a prorated credit for the unused time to the new one.
