How to cancel Planet Fitness Black Card— and check you're not still being charged
The Black Card tier costs more than the base membership and is frequently kept by people who never use the perks.
Steps to cancel Planet Fitness Black Card
- 1Decide cancel vs downgrade first — Planet Fitness moves Black Card members down to Classic in club only: "just stop by your club and a team member can assist you."
- 2Identify your home club, meaning the club you enrolled at, not whichever of the 2,600+ locations your Black Card has been getting you into.
- 3Open planetfitness.com, click "My Account", sign in and end the membership through the member portal; Black Card offers carrying the "Cancel Online, Anytime!" badge on your club's offers page are the no-commitment ones.
- 4If the portal offers nothing for your plan, visit the home club in person or mail it written notice — Planet Fitness lists both alongside the online route.
- 5Get notice in by the 10th so the 17th dues draft does not run, and by the 25th of the prior month if your Black Card offer carries an annual fee (some are sold as "No Annual Fee").
- 6If your Black Card was sold with a minimum term, expect the $58 buyout fee Planet Fitness charges for ending a contract early.
- 7Confirm in "My Billing Info & Balance" that nothing shows as "draft pending".

The downgrade direction is deliberately not self-serve. Planet Fitness puts "Current Member? Upgrade Now" links right on its Black Card page and says upgrades are done online, but for a downgrade to Classic it tells you to stop by the club in person. So if you only want out of the Black Card premium rather than out of the gym, you still have to walk in. Black Card promos are also frequently sold as no-commitment with the annual fee waived, so check your own offer's fine print before assuming a buyout fee or annual fee applies.

You lose entry at every Planet Fitness, not just one, plus the bring-a-guest-every-visit privilege, the Black Card Spa items (massage chairs, HydroMassage, tanning, Total Body Enhancement, Recovery Lounge) and PF+ premium app workouts.
