How to cancel Planet Fitness— and check you're not still being charged
Planet Fitness keeps charging long after people stop going, and cancellation often requires a visit or a letter.
Steps to cancel Planet Fitness
- 1Open planetfitness.com and click "My Account" in the header to sign in to the member portal — Planet Fitness lists the portal as one of three ways to end a membership.
- 2If no end-membership option appears for your plan, use "Gyms Near Me" then "Club Details" to get your home club's address and phone; Classic is tied to that one club.
- 3Hand written cancellation notice in at the home club front desk in person, or mail it to that club — both are routes Planet Fitness documents.
- 4Time it so the club has the notice by the 10th: Planet Fitness bills monthly dues on the 17th and says billing changes take up to 7 business days.
- 5To stop the annual fee as well, get notice in by the 25th of the month before the annual fee date printed in your offer's fine print (offers state a specific date, e.g. "billed on or shortly after October 1st").
- 6Afterward check "My Billing Info & Balance" in the account menu; Planet Fitness blocks changes while a payment shows "draft pending".

The cheap Classic offer is usually the committed one. At the Manhattan (Midtown West) club, Classic at $19/mo carries a 12-month commitment and is the only membership on that page with no "Cancel Online, Anytime!" badge, while the $24/mo "Classic No Commitment" has it. Ending a minimum-term membership early costs a $58 buyout fee. Annual fee is advertised nationally at $49 but clubs set their own — that same NY club lists $59.
Will Planet Fitness still charge you after you cancel?
Access ends at your home club, which is the only club a Classic membership covers. Dues stop once a 17th draft passes without one. The free PF App workouts keep working — Planet Fitness makes the app's digital workouts and activity tracking available to everyone, member or not.
