Some of America’s favorite big-box retailers are expanding in 2025.

Walmart, Target, Trader Joe’s, and Costco have all opened a batch of new stores this year, and many more are coming in the second half of the year.

In total, they expect to open a combined 68 locations across more than a dozen states.

Here’s the full list:

Target

Target began 2025 with 1,963 locations in the US, which puts its stores within ten miles of most American households.

After closing a few underperforming locations in recent years, the Minneapolis-based retailer said it plans to open 300 new locations over the next decade.

The company opened three new stores in April, posted summer opening dates for eight more, and, as of July, has a list of 48 locations where new stores are planned.

Walmart

Walmart has more than 4,600 locations in the US and plans to open eight new stores in 2025 and one Sam’s Club, which Walmart also owns.

While the company has been engaged in a multi-year effort to renovate its existing store fleet (including the conversion of some stores into Supercenters), its latest location in Cypress, Texas, in April marked the first new-construction Supercenter opening in four years.

Sam’s Club is now embarking on an expansion phase with an all-new warehouse in Arizona, following last year’s opening of its first new warehouse in seven years.

Costco

As of June, Costco had 907 locations worldwide, with 624 in the US. The wholesale warehouse giant has said it plans to open about 30 new locations in 2025, similar to the number it typically opens each year.

In addition to entering new markets, the company has also begun exploring ways to locate new warehouses nearby existing ones to alleviate some of the traffic and crowding issues that affect some more popular locations.
